Established in 1956 Young Il Chemical Co., Ltd. has grown up to be an expert in formulating agricultural chemicals in Korea. With the sophisticated technology and unique skills, the company could have dedicated itself to this world the better place to live. The company has more than 150 agricultural chemicals and some fine chemicals for the local and overseas market.
The company, which employs totally 166 people, has its head office in Seoul and has manufacturing operations in Daejon city where is 2 hours away from Seoul to the south and Ansan city near the Inchon port in Yellow Sea. The company operates locally 8 sales branches with 40 salesmen, 8 marketers and more than 700 distributors to fully cover the every market place around Korea.
In the late 1970s, the company expanded the production lines building a new factory in Daejon area to have leaped up to a specialist of agricultural chemicals to have complied with the various customers needs and satisfaction. Banwol plant set in 1986 brought the company to lead the agricultural and fine chemicals industry. The state-of-the-art formulating facilities that produce an extruded granulation type of herbicide "Mannyang GR" enables the company to control costs reduction and product management to ensure the quality that keeps up with truly world class.
Annual sales in 1998 is more than 55.7 billion Korean won (U$45mil) decrease 1.4% compared previously 56.5billion Korean won on 1997 year due to the finance turmoil that hit South-East Asia as well at a time end of 1997. The company aims its sales increase 20% up to 67 billion Korean won (U$54mil) in 1999.
With the philosophy "Creativity" the company always makes it toward focusing on creating and offering all shapes and sizes of formulation at farmers needs and requirements. The philosophy extends to the health, safety, and environments. It is consequently our infinite endeavor to conduct our operations within the guideline of material safety from storing raw materials to delivering finished products to the end users. Out of many years experiences, the formulating processes standardize operations and guarantee safety. The company aims to be always with farmers for the better life comes true.

* Organization

On Sept. 1, 1998, Mr. Chul Keun Park, who has dedicated to the company as President from 1976 to Aug. 1998, inaugurated to Chairman, and Mr. Hyoung Sup Choi was appointed as President of the company.
Business and R&D Committee consists of 6members who are to be nominated by Chairman. The role of committee is to carry out on the matter of Business projects and Sales & Marketing policy as well as R&D concerns, for which the committee are deliberating, making decision and evaluating.
The Credit management team reports directly to President. It is getting more important to manage distributors' credits reasonably for the proper transactions increased in volume. The point is to focus on not only preventing from any useless loss but also protecting the customers' over-purchase exceeding the credit line set by the company's efficient credit management.
The company is organized with two main divisions. One is Management Division led by Mr. Chung Gil Cho Executive Director consists of Personnel & General Affairs, Accounting & Finance, Local Procurement and Two Factories. The other is Business Division led by Mr. Byung Ha Yun Executive Director is Sales I (Agrochemicals) with 8 sales branches & Sales II(Fine Chemicals) controlled by Mr. Jae Eon Kang Director, Marketing by Mr. Jin Hak Choi Director, Planning, R&D and Research Institute that is located in Daejon plant carrying out synthesis, formulation study and field trials.

* Background of Establishment

The company started the business on Dec. 28, 1964 in the name of Young Il Chemical Co., Ltd. as acquiring Korea Nicotine Ltd. established in 1956. The 1956 is accounted for the year of the company's starts. For the acquisition, Mr. Chul Keun Park was the major leading member.
In the mid of 1960s despite the industry portfolio was fundamentally inclined to agriculture, most of the grass-roots went through a severe famine. Those times the company was proud of setting out crop protection business and voluntarily took a key role to increase the food production.

* Growing process

The starts of the company was not a greatness at the early stage of business when the sericultural industry was booming. The company developed the sericultural chemicals of Neo-PPS & Papzol (Paraform aldehyde) and some products to sell with about 10 employees. In 1968 the company was encouraged with having set a factory at Kuro factory complex site in Seoul for formulating DDVP, Trichion, Sulfuric acid (H2SO4), and so on.
In 1976 Mr. Chul Keun Park, president of the company built up the company's frameworks concerning Personnel Affairs, Salary, and Basic Guidelines on Employs. He led the company sales up to 1.03 billion won in 1977 on 0.62 billion won in 1975. Especially, he went aggressively ahead for the establishment of Daejon Factory with his own confidence beyond a strong criticism. Eventually, it made the company a mainstay of the agrochemicals fields as well as the sericultural chemicals.
A remarkable sales increase 64% on the previous year to 15 billion won was in 1986, when the company moved the factory from Kuro to Banwol factory complex formulating mainly specialty chemicals while agrochemicals were produced in Daejon factory. At that time, the company was supplied with raw-material of agrochemicals by multinational companies of Bayer, Ciba-geigy, Du-pont, ICI, Rhone-poulenc, etc. Meanwhile, Mr. Duke Hoon Lee inaugurated to president of the company to collaborate with Mr. Park as an individual Representative Director respectively.
It was the company's honor to have awarded in 1986 a Bronze Tower of the Order of Industrial Service Merit by the Government for the company's contribution to food production increase and the valuable successes of developments of Aluminum phosphide 56% Tab. (Epifume TR), Ethephon Tech., and a rodenticide of Taron TR.
The company established Laboratory annexed Daejon factory in 1988 for the active development of safety and efficient products. The laboratory was nominated for the military exemption institute in 1995, where a researcher served is exempted from the obligation of military service.
The company reports 5 billion won for a capital and more than 55.7 billion Korean won (U$45mil) sales turnover in 1998.

Young Il Chemical Co. Ltd¡¯s two factories are striving to produce safety and best quality products at workers' stewardship and liabilities with the standardized process at reasonable prices and deliver them to customers quickly and efficiently.
-Daejeon factory
The factory began to operate for the formulation of agricultural chemicals in 1978. It was proved that the factory was timely and properly established for the future-oriented investment in terms of the location condition and production expansion despite strong oppositions to the projects. As a divergent traffic point Daejon city is an important area for transportation industrially, where a manufacturer is able to minimize transporting cost. The production capacity of Kuro factory has faced up its limits, even which was operated until 1986, when it moved to Banwol factory.
At its completion the records on the factory shows the data 14,720m2 of plottage and 4,393m2 buildings including 1,514m2 of production building. The production capacity (8hrs) are; wettable powder-6,000kg, granulation-24,000kg, dust powder-30,000kg, emulsion concentration-7,500liter, etc. Those data tells the factory could have covered all production of agrochemicals at the time major products are about 20 kinds of formulations like Folpet, Captan, Ethephon, etc.
The factory started in 1981 to have equipped with auto package system. Packaging involves promoting and protecting the product and can make a product more convenient to use or store. A palletizer was installed. The company's package being developed incessantly could meet customers' needs better and improve a product by making it easier or safer to use.
The factory was sufficiently organized with 40 people on the site; 7,306m2 for the 11 buildings including 3,378m2 of production facilities. The production capacity reaches to 79,000kg- wettable powder, 93,000kg-granulation, 19,000 liter-emulsion concentration & soluble types, and 1,000kg- Epifume TR (Aluminum phosphide tablet ). The factory in the end could both nominally and virtually be positioning the mainstay of the agrochemicals business range.

-Banwol factory
The factory was completed in 1986 on the 14,942m2 of plottage with 2,335m2 buildings.
At its completion, the production capacities (8hrs) are: 30,000kg of Poly aluminum chloride, 4,000cans (can/150g ) of Smokiller TR (smoke generating household insecticide), 6,000bottles(bottle/100ml) of Doremi (plant growth regulator targeting bean sprouts). In fact all business rights on Smokiller TR were sold in the end of 1996.
Now the production capacities (8 hours) are 80,000kg- granule type of agrochemicals and 43,000kg-fine chemicals.
The factory was experienced with producing Taron TR (Rodenticide), DDVP Tech., Potassium Sulfric acid, and veterinary chemicals of PAPZOL TR & Neo-PPS TR (Paraform aldehyde). The factory could produce a intermediary of MET (Methyl-p-toluenesulfonate).
It was 1994 the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility was installed for the formulation of extruded granule type of herbicides with the area of 3,772 m2. It was based on the most up-dated technology from Nissan Chemical for the formulation of Mannyang TR GR (one shot herbicide for paddy rice; pyrazosulfuron-ethyl +mefenacet) and Dual TR GR (Metolalchlor). It was designed for environments friendly with no effluent nor emission of any dust or materials.
As a basic producer of Dichlorovos and 6-benzyl adenine, the factory also produce intermediary of 2-C.N.A., Talnflumate, Clonixin Lysinate. For the household insecticide, Cleancap TR (D-cis/trans Permethrin 0.25%), and a water treatment of Y-floc TR.
